NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2009
Welcome back to all our parents and pupils. I trust everybody had a restful summer break (despite the weather!!).
Active Kids.
Thank you to all parents for collecting Active Kids tokens on behalf of the school. We had enough tokens for a whole host of new outdoor play equipment for our Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 playgrounds.
Curriculum Evenings.
We intend to discuss curriculum issues with parents on two separate occasions this half term. This will provide parents with useful information on how best to support their child at home.
On WEDNESDAY 23rd SEPTEMBER from 6.30 – 7.30 p.m. there will be an opportunity to meet with your child’s class teacher to discuss the strategies and work that your child will be covering over the forthcoming year. Then on either TUESDAY 20th /or THURSDAY 22nd OCTOBER there will be an opportunity to meet your child’s class teacher and discuss your child’s progress and how well s/he has settled into his/her new class.
School Changes.
Ms Heron has been appointed to a headship in Cumbria and Mrs. Fieldhouse will continue as Acting Deputy Headteacher. Mrs. Fowles successfully completed her teacher training in July and is now working as Class 8’s teacher. Mr. Callaghan has moved to Class 9 and Miss Whittle to Class 4. Mrs. Kennedy will be returning to work shortly and will be taking the new full time Lower Foundation Stage class in January.
Peripatetic music lessons.
There are a small number of vacancies available for children to learn to play the violin or the flute/clarinet instruments. If you are interested then please contact Mrs Hesling at the school.
Trim trail reminder.
The children are shown how to use the apparatus and how many children are allowed on each separate piece of equipment at one time. We also insist that the children are only allowed on if they are wearing sensible shoes. Obviously for health and safety reasons children are only allowed on if they can use the apparatus sensibly. We need to keep to these rules and would ask that no child use the apparatus before and after school.
Collecting Children at the end of the school day.
It is school’s policy that all children (except our oldest children in Y5 and Y6) are collected from outside their classroom at 3.20 p.m. However should a parent of a child in Y3 or Y4 believe that their child is responsible enough to be collected from outside the school gate then the parent will need to come into school to sign a permission form.
Diversity Week.
We are planning a diversity week during the week beginning MONDAY 9th NOVEMBER. Children will be involved in a variety of activities and experiences to celebrate different cultures and religions. Thank you to Miss Whittle for all her hard work in organising the week.
Extra curricular
We continue to provide an extensive range of out of school activities for our children to enjoy. Your child may have recently brought a permission slip home please return as soon as possible as the places are in short supply. Some of these outdoor activities may cease at October half term and restart in the spring when the light improves. During the year we may commence new activities to replace some of the above.
Walking bus.
Unfortunately we are discontinuing the walking bus due to there being insufficient children wanting to walk to school with the helpers. The ‘bus’ has been operating every Thursday and Friday for the past 18 months with a small band of dedicated helpers and pupils. A very big thank you to Mr. Bowering, Mrs. Batty and Mrs. Portman for all their valiant efforts in keeping things going over the past year and a half!
Car Parking.
We have received a complaint from one of our neighbours about the difficulties caused by irresponsible parking on Fairfield Road. As you are all aware this is a regular school complaint and requires all our parents to park their vehicles responsibly before and after school. As always the safety of all our children comes first and foremost. Before the school holiday we had a lengthy meeting with the police regarding the issues. As a result The Prince of Wales Public House has agreed to allow parents to use their car park when delivering and collecting children from the school. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the congestion outside school.
Behaviour Policy
Our behaviour policy was amended last week as a result of out whole school SEAL training. All parents should have received a copy last week. Further copies can be found on line on our school web site. If there are any points you would like to raise about the policy please do not hesitate to contact the school.
